Plymouth Market

Real pubs. Real pints. Real people.

This site isn’t here to sell you an app, flog you a tour, or tell you what IPA pairs well with quail eggs. It’s here to map out the boozers, big up the locals, and document what’s left of Plymouth’s pub scene before someone turns it into flats.

Whether you’re after a quiet pint, a sticky carpet, a historic gem or somewhere that hasn’t changed since the smoking ban came in, you’re in the right place. I’m doing this for the love of it and maybe a bit of bitterness. The good kind.

Just don’t ask for a Carling review.

Welcome to Plymouth on Tap

Where Did All the Good Pubs Go?

Plymouth used to be packed with proper pubs; corner boozers, dockyard haunts, sticky-floored dives and proud old inns that survived wars but not the landlords. I’ve started pulling together the stories behind them. Some are still pulling pints. Some got turned into flats with daft names. Some disappeared without a whisper. This is my attempt to keep the memories alive, or at the very least, on the internet.

Where Can I Get a Decent Pint?

There’s still hope. I’ve built a map of the pubs still open in Plymouth which is just a good old-fashioned list. Whether you want a quiet pint, a darts board, a jukebox, or a pub that still serves crisps in a bowl, it’s all on there. I’m adding to it all the time. If I’ve missed your local, feel free to moan at me.

What’s Worth a Visit This Week?

Each week (or when I can bothered), I shine a light on one pub worth checking out. Could be a no-frills classic, a strange gem with loyal regulars, or somewhere I’ve stumbled into and thought, “yeah, alright, this’ll do.” There’s no paid placements, no free pints, and no agenda beyond me liking the place. Think of it as word-of-mouth, if that mouth had a website.

Wear (or carry)Your Local Loyalty

If you’ve made it this far, you probably love pubs as much as we do. And if you’re proud to back your local, now you can wear that pride on your chest, or carry it over your shoulder.

These pieces are part of our first-ever collaboration with Geddon Bey, a proper Plymouth-based brand that doesn’t mess about. They make ethical clothing with a conscience: organic cotton, plastic-free, water-based inks, and vegan-approved. No sweatshops, no fast fashion, no bullshit.

We chose Geddon Bey because they give a shit about the environment, about people, and about doing things properly. That’s the kind of outfit we’re proud to stand beside. Local supporting local. Pints supporting purpose.

All merch is made to order, so there’s no waste and every single one helps shine a light on the pubs that make this city what it is.

Got a Favourite? Or a Pub That Deserves a Roast?

I’m always on the lookout for hidden gems, absolute stinkers, or pubs with a story worth telling. If there’s somewhere I’ve missed or one you reckon I’ve been too kind (or too harsh) about send it my way. I might even brave the sticky tables for you.
